The Apostle Paul said,
"The Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words. And God, who searches the heart, knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God." (Romans 8:26-27 NRSV)
Even if we don't know our deepest needs, or why we are praying, the Spirit knows our hearts and prays with us. Empowered by this Spirit, Christians throughout the world pray night and day for each other and for the liberation of all humanity from suffering, poverty and war. The prayer of Christians is continuous--in families, congregations, religious communities, in the solitude of those who are alone.
"Don't worry about anything, but pray about everything. With thankful hearts offer up your prayers and requests to God." (Phillipians 4:6 CEV)

PAUL - A TRUE SERVANT OF GOD. His letter to the synagogue in Thessalonica is the earliest writing in the New Testament. "Pray without ceasing," he says. If we did that we would have heaven on earth. "Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." |
