I'm happy to welcome you to the "ehome" of First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, San Bernardino. I hope that, on the pages of this website, you will be able to learn a little about who we are, what we believe, and the ministries we support.
We at San Bernardino UCC are an Open & Affirming congregation. That means we welcome all people - all ages, races, and sexual orientations, all kinds of families - and we invite everyone to participate in our life and mission.
San Bernardino UCC is a church that understands faith is a matter of mind as well as heart. We seek out the best in modern biblical research and theology, we are progressive in our theology, and we are confident that "there is yet more light and truth to break forth from God's holy Word," as our Congregational ancestor John Robinson put it.
San Bernardino UCC is a church in mission. We participate, through our national and international partners, in mission in over 200 countries around the world. Every week of the year, our volunteers here in San Bernardino prepare meals for people with HIV/AIDS. We sponsor one of San Bernardino's Community-Based Afterschool Homework Centers, and we created and operate the Las Familias preschool (a parttime, parent-participation program for 2-4 year olds).
San Bernardino UCC is a church in covenant. We are part of the United Church of Christ, a merger of four historic denominations. We believe that Christ calls us to be nothing less than global citizens, expressing God's love through working for justice and peace.
This is a place of laughter and hope, of passion and commitment. We are a family of faith that loves and cares for one another and for our community and world. No matter who you are, no matter where you are on your journey, you are welcome here. We look forward to celebrating together with you in worship, Sundays at 10 a.m.
Peace and Blessings, Rev. Petra Malleis-Sternberg
